Blogger of the Week: Vinitha Shetty

Vinitha Shetty is a blogger, stylist and a production manager. An all-rounder, ‘Beingnita’ is a blog about a girl next door’s journey which strives on figuring out latest trends. The idea behind the blog is to have an individual style intact. She features high street, affordable luxury and even thrift buys giving rise to an array of personal style for a perfect look.

Vinitha’s blog is not your average blog, she says she does not see people accepting their flaws that often. Shetty adds, ‘I see it in their style, but they seem to not mention why or how they chose their outfit’. This is where she stands out from the crowd and does things differently. She makes each outfit a step-by-step!

The blogger prefers to dress comfortably with a touch of modern and desi styling. She features clothes that suit her the best irrespective of trends and adds her own touch to the outfit.

Mood, as well as her current weight, is her primary source of inspiration when it comes to fashion and style. Apart from that, she loves stalking other bloggers and their take on fashion.

A plethora of picture-perfect bloggers, with great skin and perfect body, made her want to start her own blog. She also wanted to represent women with different body types and skin tones.

Vinitha Shetty believes blogging is a great way for people who are invested in fashion to engage with those who do not take it as a full-time job and would find it helpful in terms of latest trends in the fashion world. ‘I think blogging is a huge responsibility as you want to give your end user the ultimate source of information’, mentions the blogger.

Being Nita is a variation of her name, the blog intends to show her audience a different side of her. A reform of herself – ‘Nita’

Beingnita’s audience is varied and consists of a majority of 16-year-olds looking for latest fashion ideas. Women in their mid-twenties look for relatable stories to read whereas women in their late twenties hunt for sustainable fashion via her blog!

The multifaceted blogger would like to venture out into making more videos in the near future. She uses a Canon 700D with a 50mm lens for her pictures.

Vinitha says, ‘If you like it, wear it. Trends and fashion faux pas are not the law!’ Someone who’d like to start blogging or is new to blogging, being true to oneself is a must. The ultimate point of blogging should be to portray one’s true version and not a make-believe persona!

Blogger of the Week: Shruti

Shruti is a 29-year-old multi-tasker, who efficiently juggles her life with a 2 and a half year long marriage, her work profile of a UI/UX designer and a blog. She has planned to come up with her online store of curated vintage inspired clothes. She is an ardent vintage lover. Film photography, yoga, classic rock music and clothes are among her other favourites.

Her blog is about her thoughts, things and people that inspire her, and all other things she loves- photography, music, travel, etc.

On being asked about what makes her blog unique, she states

“It’s a difficult one to answer though. I mean someone else would be able to tell it better if it is different at all. On my part, I try to create a feeling rather than something that is commercial or something that looks artificial. It is actually difficult for me to categorise my blog because I write about a variety of topics: everything I feel and experience. To many it may look like a style blog but it’s not entirely a style blog. I also write about my life, my weaknesses, my thoughts – so maybe that’s something that makes it different. I also don’t have regular updates on my blog, because I don’t want to make it something that I need to maintain or feel the pressure to maintain. I started this blog as an escape route and I wish to keep it that way.”

Her style statement is not of a trend follower or a brand conscious person. Versatility is her keyword. She shares, “My style keeps on changing on how I feel on a particular day or the kind of music I am into.”

Music is a major influence on her style. On days when punk rock is in a loop, her attire reflects that. Her wardrobe reflects her playlist of the day, let it be Kenny Rodgers, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles etc. To pin down, her style is a mix of the 60s and androgynous fashion.

She feels her inspiration doesn’t come from trendsetting and high ended fashion journals but from street style and music. She likes what she terms practical fashion, something that you can carry every day. She is fond of efficient tailoring. TV shows have been her major source of inspiration lately, some of the characters from Downton Abbey, Mad Men for example. She has also explored the arena of men’s fashion and loves to borrow stuff from her husband’s wardrobe.

She started her blog in 2013. It started as a platform to spill out her thoughts. She developed upon her blog as a style curation feed a year after in 2014. She finds blogging a great platform to share, a great way for her to express her creativity and thoughts. For someone like her, who started a blog solely to express thoughts and share photos – she feels blogging has also lost its essence in many ways. According to her blogging is a great way to know a person. She says, “for me – to be able to feel/ connect with someone just by reading about them is really important. To be able to feel like you know them and you can relate to them or think they are really cool or just like you makes you feel like you will be great friends if you met in real life.”

She believes blogging has become a source of income, a full-time job, a feedback forum in many ways but feels that connection to be able to relate on a personal level is missing.

Her blog which is called Retro Days comes from her love for everything vintage such as old music, retro/vintage fashion, film photography, old architecture and many other things.

Her posts are quite relatable to people who are in their 20s/30s but sometimes it becomes hard for her to judge her audience as people from various ages have liked her content from time to time just like her yoga posts that are liked by people of different age groups.

Shruti

Long-term planning is not the kind of game that she plays but wishes to keep having fun and follow her passion. She says, “I really like blogging, so I’ll keep doing that for sure. I am planning to launch my online shop soon and I’m really looking forward to that. Exploring my creative potential is something that is always on the cards. To stay happy and fit is my everyday goal”

Shruti uses her iPhone to click her pictures but prefers using a digital camera when someone else clicks for her. However, she wishes to start using film cameras as they bring a type of feel that most other cameras cannot capture.

She says that people should not start blogging with a notion of making money on it because at that very moment one ends up losing authenticity which causes the focus to get diluted and she believes that one should write and blog just for oneself.

Blogger of the Week : Shivani Boruah

The immense love and support from you ‘Creative Heads’ have been surreal over the past few years. Inspiro India wishes to grow with the growing population of ‘#inspiroindia‘. We’re continuously working to bring great content to anyone and everyone following us on various platforms.

This year we present to you, an all new feature presenting ‘The Blogger of the Week’.

Shivani is a fun loving person and love dogs! Apart from being a blogger, she is a  musician and is currently working on her E.P. “The Velvet Radio is something through which I speak my mind. It’s basically a visual story teller. Currently it has the following major sections : Fashion, Lifestyle, IAndAThing. ‘IAndAThing’ is where I feature people who are living their dreams and in some way inspire me to work on my dreams. Also, June onwards, I have started a ‘music’ section where I would cover major music concerts across India and a few music related talks( The first and the latest one being ‘The Music Scene In North- East India: A Retrospective’). Coming to the fashion section, which is the crucial section of the blog, I mostly try to come up with conceptual ideas so as to be able to tell stories through the pictures. As I go by my motto- “Let Art Begin”, I love to experiment with my wardrobe.” Boruah talks about her blog.

Shivani Boruah

The Velvet Radio is a visual storyteller drawing major inspiration from Art. “I try to portray a few grey areas of the society through my pictures( Two such blog posts being–  Mannequin and Phantom Bride ). In the days to come, I want to bring to light more such grey areas of our society.” As she continues to talk about her blogging ideas.

Shivani’s style is all about comfort. Although she experiments a lot, it always revolves around comfort.

“Art and a lot of Art. Apart from it, its the people around me, people on the streets who inspire me. Also, it’s the kind of music I listen to helps me draw my inspiration from  ‘cause I like to move along, groove with the music, dance or headbang a little bit, so yeah, that’s the kind of clothes I usually prefer to wear in which I am comfortable to do all these! Plus one of the major source of inspiration is the nature itself! I also draw inspiration from the trend forecasts by the elite magazines and webzines but try to add the me- flavour to it.” Shivani shares about her inspirations.

Well, It was last year July that I took my writing skills and ideas about fashion a little seriously and started blogging. Although I kicked off TVRadio as a Fashion Blog, now it has many other sections too. I have a great interest in putting my thoughts into words and then I also needed a platform to showcase my ideas behind fashion with a poetic flare. Fashion, for me, is a creative expression and a beautiful form of art. My blog serves as a medium for my visual/ photo stories.”

Shivani talks about the blogging industry, “ It is good to see how the blogging- industry is developing but also at the same time there is a lot of grapevine around it. People usually do not know how much time and effort bloggers and photographers spend on one concept. Also, in blogging it is very much important to be original and never copy the style and content of an already- famous blogger. Two of the key traits a blogger has to have are: Patience and Honesty. I don’t endorse brands with which I can’t relate my style to. My blog is a personal blog portraying two of my passions: Fashion and Music. I wanted a name that would highlight both, hence, the name. Velvet signifies fashion and Radio signifies music. Well, since my blog is pretty new, I do not have a huge follower base. Plus as I am mostly into an editorial theme, people can’t always relate to it. But yeah, it’s the youngsters around the age group of 15- 30 yrs within and across the nation.”

As she moves ahead with her future plans, “ I want to be better w.r.t., the kind of work that I have been doing. At times, I don’t get what I seek from the photographers, as in, there is a clash of taste and interest. And it is very important to maintain your flare throughout no matter who you work with. Its my creative direction that I put into my pictures, so as to master it I want to develop good photography skills. I do not shoot and am still in my learning phase with my Canon 700D. I use my iPhone for on- the-go pictures. My photographers get their own cameras but I only work with photographers who understand my flare and with whom I am very confident shooting.”

Shivani gives us two tips regarding blogging, “Never lose your originality and develop  the basics of photography and editing.”

Blogger of the Week : Dolly Singh

The immense love and support from you ‘Creative Heads’ have been surreal over the past few years. Inspiro India wishes to grow with the growing population of ‘#inspiroindia‘. We’re continuously working to bring great content to anyone and everyone following us on various platforms.

This year we present to you, an all new feature presenting ‘The Blogger of the Week’.

Dolly Singh says, “ My  father took the liberty to name me Dolly Singh and I happen to like french fries and a pair of good shoes equally. I am known to be quite photogenic, basically quite ugly in real life. Jk. I also happen to try outfits at 4am.” Dolly tells us how her blog started with the need to tell girls that repeating clothes is okay and you don’t have to judge others and yourself when that happens. Key is, do it differently each time. That’s what She started with, later delving into experimental fashion and just anything she wanted to try out.

Dolly Singh

Dolly narrates “ I do not fit into any mould there is. I do what I please and play around. The blog for me is only an escape and a place to let my creative juices  flow. You will not find me doing the same thing as 50 other fashion bloggers.. I don’t believe I have one particular style. Sometimes I wake up wanting to portray a hippie from the 70s and the next day it is a girl-boss avatar. “ Everything works for Miss Singh. She says her inspiration comes from things around her. Her friends, strangers, plants, coffee, a dog, just anything. She started two years ago because all the blogs she followed were talking about the fancy shmancy brands around while she could only afford Sarojini Nagar and Forever21’s sale section. Hence she decided to do something about it and here we are! “Blogging is an amazing way to vent out your energy in the right direction and also be known. You can talk about anything and everything you like. And even though ‘fashion blogging’ is now being mistaken for jazzy Instagram accounts with huge followings, I hope the trend will fade out soon and the people who genuinely know what they’re doing will stay!” She discusses. On discussing about her blog’s name, Dolly tells, “ When I was contemplating a name for the blog I knew for sure I wanted the word ‘sass’ in there, (basically I had learnt a new fancy word!). I also wanted to stay away from words like style, fashion, vogue, etc. That’s how Spill The Sass was born.” She says she is proud on having build a young yet smart niche audience. People who genuinely follow her work and put in their feedback and suggestions from time to time and The blog will go on. Miss Singh have  a Canon 600D but she barely use it as most of her pictures are taken by some really kind and talented photographers.

“The only advice to the readers of blogs is to actually go and read what the blogger has to say. It is not just about the pictures. Young upcoming bloggers need to remember two things, first, focus on what they want to do through the blog instead of looking at what others are doing. Second, let it take time, numbers will follow. Rome was not built in a day.” Her advice to all the budding bloggers.
