Blogger of the Week: Shruti

Shruti is a 29-year-old multi-tasker, who efficiently juggles her life with a 2 and a half year long marriage, her work profile of a UI/UX designer and a blog. She has planned to come up with her online store of curated vintage inspired clothes. She is an ardent vintage lover. Film photography, yoga, classic rock music and clothes are among her other favourites.

Her blog is about her thoughts, things and people that inspire her, and all other things she loves- photography, music, travel, etc.

On being asked about what makes her blog unique, she states

“It’s a difficult one to answer though. I mean someone else would be able to tell it better if it is different at all. On my part, I try to create a feeling rather than something that is commercial or something that looks artificial. It is actually difficult for me to categorise my blog because I write about a variety of topics: everything I feel and experience. To many it may look like a style blog but it’s not entirely a style blog. I also write about my life, my weaknesses, my thoughts – so maybe that’s something that makes it different. I also don’t have regular updates on my blog, because I don’t want to make it something that I need to maintain or feel the pressure to maintain. I started this blog as an escape route and I wish to keep it that way.”

Her style statement is not of a trend follower or a brand conscious person. Versatility is her keyword. She shares, “My style keeps on changing on how I feel on a particular day or the kind of music I am into.”

Music is a major influence on her style. On days when punk rock is in a loop, her attire reflects that. Her wardrobe reflects her playlist of the day, let it be Kenny Rodgers, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles etc. To pin down, her style is a mix of the 60s and androgynous fashion.

She feels her inspiration doesn’t come from trendsetting and high ended fashion journals but from street style and music. She likes what she terms practical fashion, something that you can carry every day. She is fond of efficient tailoring. TV shows have been her major source of inspiration lately, some of the characters from Downton Abbey, Mad Men for example. She has also explored the arena of men’s fashion and loves to borrow stuff from her husband’s wardrobe.

She started her blog in 2013. It started as a platform to spill out her thoughts. She developed upon her blog as a style curation feed a year after in 2014. She finds blogging a great platform to share, a great way for her to express her creativity and thoughts. For someone like her, who started a blog solely to express thoughts and share photos – she feels blogging has also lost its essence in many ways. According to her blogging is a great way to know a person. She says, “for me – to be able to feel/ connect with someone just by reading about them is really important. To be able to feel like you know them and you can relate to them or think they are really cool or just like you makes you feel like you will be great friends if you met in real life.”

She believes blogging has become a source of income, a full-time job, a feedback forum in many ways but feels that connection to be able to relate on a personal level is missing.

Her blog which is called Retro Days comes from her love for everything vintage such as old music, retro/vintage fashion, film photography, old architecture and many other things.

Her posts are quite relatable to people who are in their 20s/30s but sometimes it becomes hard for her to judge her audience as people from various ages have liked her content from time to time just like her yoga posts that are liked by people of different age groups.

Shruti

Long-term planning is not the kind of game that she plays but wishes to keep having fun and follow her passion. She says, “I really like blogging, so I’ll keep doing that for sure. I am planning to launch my online shop soon and I’m really looking forward to that. Exploring my creative potential is something that is always on the cards. To stay happy and fit is my everyday goal”

Shruti uses her iPhone to click her pictures but prefers using a digital camera when someone else clicks for her. However, she wishes to start using film cameras as they bring a type of feel that most other cameras cannot capture.

She says that people should not start blogging with a notion of making money on it because at that very moment one ends up losing authenticity which causes the focus to get diluted and she believes that one should write and blog just for oneself.

Blogger of the Week : Varun Singhania

The immense love and support from you ‘Creative Heads’ have been surreal over the past few years. Inspiro India wishes to grow with the growing population of ‘#inspiroindia‘. We’re continuously working to bring great content to anyone and everyone following us on various platforms.

This year we present to you, an all new feature presenting ‘The Blogger of the Week’.

Varun Singhania aka BeardsEyeView is many things but mostly a photographer, a personal style blogger and a hardcore beard enthusiast. He says he is a misfit, a non-conformist and an introvert.

While talking about his blog, he says, “My blog is a showcase of my personal style and experiments with my own wardrobe. My blog is an amalgamation of my personal style, my experiments in fashion, and a bit of travel and photography. I don’t endorse brands I don’t stand behind or the ones that don’t represent my personal style. It’s how I view fashion and how I like to see it on myself. I’m also not your typical tuxedo-wearing slick-haired dapper blogger.”

“My style is very fluid and it keeps evolving, but more often it’s a fusion between hipster and grunge/ street.” As he talks about his style.

Varun Singhania

His inspiration is a lot of Italian, Asian (Indian & Korean), underground street and tribal fashion.

Also, fashion within music, especially from the 80s inspires a lot.

Varun started blogging about 3 years ago and it was around the time He started growing  beard as well (pun intended). He says, “In fact, my beard was pretty much the game changer. It made me switch up my style and up my fashion game and I began documenting it. I also got into a lot of photography around the same time and my personal Instagram just evolved into a blog from there on.”

Varun’s take on blogging, “I believe that blogging should be a representation of who you are and what your views are. Whatever the core of it might be, it should always be authentic and stem from your own creativity. I don’t believe in blogs & bloggers that turn into mere advertisements and billboards.”

Varun’s blog was initially just his Instagram where he used to post his everyday photography and edits. It had nothing to do with fashion initially. “Around the same time I began growing a beard, and I began to be known as “beardie”. And it just suddenly hit me one day that I wanted an alias name; one that would be representative of not just my beard but also my vision. A friend and I got thinking, and the same day we came up with ‘Beards Eye View’ as a pun on the phrase ‘Bird’s Eye View’.”

He says, “My audience is a mix of beard enthusiasts, guys who want to switch up their style and women who appreciate a man who tries different things.” They’re scattered between the age group 15-30yrs and mostly from India, Italy and USA.

Varun says wherever his blog takes him regarding his future plans with blogging. “My interests are split between my blog and my photography currently, and I’m trying to find a way to fuse both. I want to experiment more with contemporary Indian fashion and also include more travel oriented content on the blog.”

He uses a Canon 6D and a GoPro, and occasionally iPhone.

Varun gives advice to readers would be to not judge. Never judge anyone for their style, their views and their take on things.

Two tips to future bloggers would be 1) Hire or collaborate with a good photographer. Quality pictures always make a great impression. Also, learn how to edit your own pictures/ videos. 2) Be yourself and experiment within your own style and comfort zone. Don’t be a sell out.

Archita Rajkumari is originally from Guwahati, Assam and  a student of Nuclear Engineering who was always a fashion enthusiast and passionate about different trends. Archita started writing poems and short stories since the school time. She is an old school soul who believes in living n experimental life. Hence, she started her own blog called The Blue Girl with Wings, almost 5 years back but she used to post her poems and experiences about life and people which got discontinued due to personal reasons but she restarted the blog with her passion for fashion since the last year and currently, she is blooming in this field.

Archita Rajkumari

Archita’s blog is very much authentic and aesthetic. She doesn’t believe in following trends blindly. As she says, “Fashion is all about being comfortable in what you wear and show it off with your confidence.” Her blog will help you with fashion trends that you can carry everyday without any doubt. In her blog, you will find everything about comfortable wear and how you can mix and match to change a day look to a night look without working too hard. Also, she does reviews on various beauty and fashion products that you can use in day to day life. Her blog is different than others as it very much depicts her music tastes which basically is from the post 60s. She loves to mix and match different eras of fashion and music and come up with new sense of style.

Archita’s sense of style is very comfort based which is the most attractive part of the blog. She portrays a very bold sense of style in a very graceful way. You will find diverse posts and each of her posts are different from each other. She talks about her inspiration has come from the music icons she follows and listens to and also from her mother. Archita said, “ My mother owns a very classy wardrobe which involves a lot of shades of subtle colours like whites, nudes and blues. She is very much bold with the looks but she carries everything so beautifully that inspired me to what my fashion sense is today.”

She started her blog when she was a 18 year old girl. Her blog was initially all about her lyrical poems and observations of life. She discontinued it due to few personal reasons and she finally restarted her blog with fashion posts in the summers of 2016. Everybody appreciated her with love and gave her different views regarding it.

She talks about blogging and how the industry is actually growing right now. She says, “Currently, blogging industry has grown a lot from the past five years as different fashion icons from different cities have started their own blog which is actually inspiring lot many young girls. This blogging game has gone so strong currently that even fashion magazine and events have been promoting various brands and influencers through different collaborative ways.”

The story behind her blog’s name is mostly based on an imaginary girl like her who had to deal everything alone by herself and sail through life’s boat building herself up with new lessons who wanted to fly and be free in life. That is why the name goes as The Blue Girl With Wings.

Her audience is mostly young girls and middle aged women who loves to experiment with different styles and trends and get the boost to carry with confidence. She says her audience has people from all age group mostly and she gets comments and reviews from different people from different places of this world. Her future plans mostly includes of promoting a good sense of fashion amongst people and encourage them to carry with their confidence and be comfortable in whatever they wear. She emphasises on the word comfort and confidence more and says “You should always stick to what you believe and not care about what others gonna think as life is all about yourself and not about people’s judgements.” That’s what her advice is to the readers. She also suggests two tips for all those people who’d love to start their own blog- firstly, always know what you want to portray and what others should convey from your posts. Be sure of who you’re before portraying an image of yourself to this world. Secondly, never copy others and never follow the crowd. Stand out on your own and create your own trend and ideas. Live an evidence of your life as much as you can by being who you are.

Inspiro India is a beautiful platform for all the creative people who actually can finally showcase their work and ideas to the world. This magazine is an amazing initiative to encourage art and talent to bloom amongst everyone.
